Follow this recipe to avoid that faux-pas and cook perfect, fluffy rice, now and forever.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white rice. NOT the parboiled or quick-cooking kind

  • 1/2 tsp kosher or sea salt

Directions

  • Rinse the rice in cold water in a fine-mesh sieve until the water runs clear. Be patient here, this could take a couple of minutes.
  • Combine the rinsed rice, salt and 1 1/4 cups of water in a medium saucepan. Stir to combine
  • Bring to the boil, then cover with a lid or a tightly-wrapped foil topper. Reduce heat to as low as it will go. Cook without disturbing for 18 minutes – do not lift the lid!
  • Remove from the heat and leave to stand for 15-20 minutes, with the lid still on. Uncover and fluff the rice with a fork.
